How each facility actually works, what it costs in general terms, and which one fits what you are doing.
Most owners arrive at this with an amount in mind and no view on the shape of the money. That is the wrong way round. For a business of a given size and risk, a Malaysian bank will quote inside a fairly narrow band, so the rate is largely settled before the conversation starts. What is still open is which facility you ask for, and that choice moves the real cost far more than a quarter of a percent on the headline rate.
The clearest example is also the one most often got wrong. A term loan charges interest on the whole sum from the day it is drawn, whether the money is working or sitting in the account. An overdraft charges only on what is drawn, only on the days it is drawn. A business covering an irregular seasonal gap can pay several times more on a term loan carrying the lower advertised rate, purely because the money sits idle between the peaks.
For each facility: what it actually is, what a Malaysian bank takes as security against it, how a credit officer arrives at a limit, and the situations where it is the wrong answer. That last part is the one comparison sites leave out, because a comparison site earns nothing from telling you that the product you are looking at does not suit you.
Nothing here carries a rate, a promotional offer or an approval likelihood. SMEBox does not lend and does not set pricing, so any number we published would be a guess about someone else’s business.
If you know the shape of the problem but not the name of the product, start with the working capital guide, which covers the ordinary gap between paying suppliers and being paid. If you already have a quote in front of you and want to test whether it is the right instrument, the term loan and overdraft comparison is the faster read.
One caution about sequence. Owners often settle the facility, then look for the bank, then prepare the file. In practice the file decides how many banks will look at you at all, so it is worth knowing what a facility demands in evidence before committing to ask for it. Invoice financing, for instance, is assessed on the quality of your debtor book rather than on your profit, which suits some businesses and rules out others entirely.

A term loan charges interest on the full sum from day one, an overdraft only on what you draw, and choosing wrong is expensive.
